| Melanie Tomlinson Brooches |

| Melanie trained in illustration at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design. She works from her studio at home in Birmingham and also as an artist in the community. She has won several awards for her work and her work is currently sold in the Tate Modern.
She takes her inspiration for her range of brooches from Romanian folklore, where butterflies and flowers are a reoccurring theme. Each piece she makes has a connection to a story or song that she has heard when in Romania.
Melanie begins by painting intricate designs in my sketch book using gouache and a fine brush. She then individually hand prints her designs onto sheet tinned steel and then cuts, folds, presses and sews the various layers together. When finished, the metal gleams through the surface decoration adding visual depth to each piece.
These are beautifully intricately designed pieces in lovely colourways and we are delighted to showcase some of them here. |
